Bacterial Vaginosis (BV) - BV is the most common cause of vaginitis symptoms among women of childbearing age and is associated with sexual activity. BV reflects a change in the vaginal ecosystem. This imbalance, including pH changes, occurs when different types of bacteria outnumber the normal ones. A change in sexual partners and the use of vaginal hygiene products (such as douches and vaginal sprays) can cause BV and Vaginal Yeast Infections Research has shown an association between BV and pelvic inflammatory disease (PID), which can cause infertility and ectopic (tubal) pregnancy. Episiotomy - Swelling at the episiotomy site peaks about 72 hours after the procedure. The perineal area should be kept clean and dry to avoid infection. Soreness may continue for several weeks. Pain, redness, gaps in the incision, or more than a few drops of oozing or bleeding could signal infection. If these symptoms occur, call your health care provider. Douching - Studies show that 37% of women between the ages of 15 and 44 douche, where half of these women douche at least once a week. This is a serious problem, as douching changes the delicate chemical balance in the vagina (as well as vagina flora), which can make a woman more prone to bacterial infection. Vaginal Discharge - The best response to vaginal secretions is to keep the genitals clean and dry.
